The goal is not to win the race, the goal is to win. Sometimes we don’t even know what race we’re in because it can change without notice. We think we’re in the race to win clients, then we win clients; next, we begin the race to win profits, then we gain profits; then we begin the race to beat out our competitors, then our competitors change, then the race changes. It’s not to win the race, it’s to win period.
Whatever you’re doing, focus on defining what you want to win vs. winning the race against things that don’t matter, that can change in an instant, or against yourself because you’re used to perpetuating bad habits.
